Jupiter Broadcasting Boxee-App update: DIY

I just heard from Chris that the Boxee guys rejected the Jupiter Broadcasting App, as it is ‘just’ a compilation of RSS-Feeds. This is retarded for a multitude of reasons. All content-providing Boxee Apps are, by necessity, RSS-based. Some have a skin (such as the Rev3 App), others are exactly the same as the one I created (CNET’s App for example), namely just a bunch of RSS-Feeds that Boxee’s engine will display in a list. So it’s ok if CNET uses the built-in RSS-reader, but not when others do???

So thanks to the Boxee guys you’ll have to install it manually instead of being able to install it from the repo. Very convenient. -.-

  1. Download the ZIP-File
  2. Extract it to ~/.boxee/UserData/apps (on Linux, others see here)
  3. (Re-) Start Boxee

I’m not sure if this is possible on a Boxee-Box, but if you’ve built the box yourself, it works just fine.

Random Acts of Programming: Boxee-App for Jupiter Broadcasting

Another “Random Act of Programming”, this time for Jupiter Broadcasting. These guys do a fantastic job, I watch more JB than anything else these days. Also, I started to play around with Boxee recently, and saw that JB wasn’t on there. So I thought I’d change that. 😉

It’s not available yet, but the guys over at JB seem excited about it and hopefully it will be published soon.

Update: Chris made a cool teaser-video
